Summers Over Schools In Time For Fall

by jolenemac78 August 27, 2019 No Comments

Yes, the summer season is almost officially over with fall coming in fast. For me, not too soon, there is not a lot happening around here these past couple of weeks but there will be lots going on over the next couple of months. Please check our Community Calendar for things happening in and around the county. If you have something you would like to add please get in touch.

We do not post events on the Community Calendar, in general, that are not happening within Lafayette County. We will write a blog post for those who would like our readers to know about events happening outside of the county. The ARC North Florida a non-profit organization that services Lafayette, Suwannee, Hamilton, Columbia and Baker Counties with programs and help for individuals with developmental issues is holding a series of fund-raising events over the next several weeks in all the counties except Lafayette. We missed posting information on the first one this month that was held in Lake City but below are the flyers for each of the upcoming events that you might want to participate in and help them raise money for the organization for the rest of the year.

We have updated our calendar with the new school schedule, school sporting events and library happenings from now until the end of the October. More school sports will be added as they are posted on the website. We hope everyone will get the chance to go out and support our local young athletes at some of the upcoming events. They work hard at their chosen sports and it is always nice to hear the crowd shout out encouragement. Remember you don’t have to have a child on the team or even in the school to support them. Besides it’s fun to go and shout, boo and hiss and eat food that is not good for you at least once in a while.

There is always something fun happening at the local library including Happy Hour, Teen VR Sessions, Baby Reading Times and Zumba and cooking classes. This coming month there will even be local Florida published authors coming to meet, greet, answer questions and sell some books. Come on over to the library September 13, 2019 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. I’m going to be there as well as more people you are sure to know. So bring some cash and your questions!

The ever popular annual Pioneer Festival is coming very soon. We have a copy of the application for crafts and food vendors you can download, print and send back to the Lafayette Activities Group before the first of October. The Mayo Women’s Club has also posted their application for the Artists and Crafters Art Show being Judged from 9am to 2pm during the Pioneer Festival October 12, 2019. You will have to fill out an application for each piece of artwork you wish to put in the contest. There will be a First, Second and Third Place ribbon awarded as well as Best in Show. Click on the links below to download the applications.
