Traveling Around Mayo This Spring

by jolenemac78 April 7, 2019 No Comments

Last Friday we were traveling around the area taking new pictures to add to the website and to check out the latest at the Lafayette Farmers Market and we noticed something. The road leading into town from Branford is sincerely devoid of eye catching commercial enterprises. Yes, there is Byrd right there at the beginning, Mayo Truss and Putnal’s Straw and Trucking company but other than that there really isn’t too much to look at or get excited about along that long 10 mile stretch. I don’t know about you but a few more colorful shops would be nice to have along with all the farms, dairies and churches. Would it really hurt to have some 3-D models erected along the way advertising businesses in town?

Of course, a really nice flea market with permanent booth spaces as well as temporary ones at a reasonable rate would be good too. A space for mobile shops to lease would probably attract more people to the market as well. Who wouldn’t want a row of 10 to 15 vintage trailers and/or tiny homes lined up selling antiques and handcrafted items from. Of course, a couple of mobile food trailers mixed in would really get the foodies there. Our local farmers could put together a wooden house on a trailer with the sides that fold down into boxes for their produce too. It would be the talk of the counties and with all the traffic on U.S. 27 you would get quite a few visitors who just have to stop by to see what all is going on. Do we have local vineyards in the county? Why not a wine tasting wagon or even local home brewer to sell small samples of their wares.

I’m sure if you think about it long enough you too would come up with a lot of good ideas for such a place. Isn’t there one farmer out there who would be willing to set aside 5 or 10 acres along U.S. 27 for such an enterprise. Of course, the Lafayette Activities Group will need to get involved to have different groups come by once a month and give a talk, concert, demonstration or something to keep everyone coming back for more.

That is my rant for today and sorry it has been a couple of months since my last post. Enjoy the pictures from our ride.
